Z-ONA4LIFE is heading to Italy! Our partners from IETcc-CSIC are joining the 2026 CIMTEC, one of the world's most prestigious gatherings for the international materials community.

Specifically, the team will present the project at the 16th International Ceramics Congress, a leading forum endorsed by the World Academy of Ceramics and the International Ceramic Federation.

Scientific contribution: Sustainable SO₂ Adsorption

The MEDES team of IETcc-CSIC, in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), is presenting a work showcasing the research on the transformation of industrial waste into functional materials.

  • Title: Turning Aluminium Saline Slag into High-Performance NaP Zeolite for Sustainable SO₂ Adsorption
  • Authors: Isabel Padilla, Jaime Casas, Antonio Nieto, Maximina Romero, and Aurora López-Delgado.

In the context of sustainable inorganic materials, a key challenge is the transformation of industrial waste into functional materials. This study explores the potential of waste-derived NaP zeolite as an efficient adsorbent for sulfur dioxide (SO₂), one of the main gases responsible for air pollution.

Project synergies

This work is a prime example of the synergies fostered within the Z-ONA4LIFE framework, combining the expertise of CSIC and UPM to address environmental challenges. By transforming salt slag into an adsorbent, the project continues to make progress in the field of sustainable materials development and environmental protection.
