What Are Zeolites?

Zeolites are porous crystalline materials capable of capturingand exchanging molecules and ions. Their unique structure makes them particularly suitable for environmental remediation and industrial purification processes.

Zeolites can occur naturally or be synthetically produced. Synthetic zeolites can be designed with a greater control over composition and structure, enabling their use in a wide range of specialised industrial applications.

Within Z-ONA4LIFE, synthetic zeolites (Z-ONA zeolite) are produced from aluminium salt slag and silica-rich waste, showing how industrial residues can become valuable secondary raw materials.
