The EU-funded project ABATE is organising a live webinar as part of EU Green Week 2025, focusing on innovative solutions for air treatment in the waste management sector.
This online event, titled “Cleaner Air, Smarter Waste: Innovations for a Sustainable Future”, brings together experts to discuss how advanced technologies are helping reduce emissions, improve odour control, and increase energy efficiency in waste treatment facilities.
A highlight of the event is the presentation of the LIFE ABATE project, which is developing new approaches to air treatment that make waste management more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The project showcases how combining research, technology, and practical implementation can significantly reduce the environmental footprint of waste treatment activities.
Z-ONA4LIFE at the "Cleaner Air, Smarter Waste: Innovations for a Sustainable Future" webinar.
Laura Megido from COGERSA, a partner in the Z-ONA4LIFE consortium, has been invited to present the project and its contributions to the circular economy and air quality improvement. During her intervention, she describes how Z-ONA zeolite—a synthetic material obtained by recycling hazardous aluminium salt slag—is being tested and used for gas emissions depuration at both pilot and industrial scales.
Specifically, she shares experiences from its application in real industrial environments, including the Alusigma and COGERSA facilities, showing how the zeolite can effectively capture and neutralise harmful compounds released during waste treatment processes. This contributes not only to cleaner air but also to resource efficiency and waste valorisation.
The webinar is free and open to the public, and it provides a unique opportunity for stakeholders in industry, research, and policy to explore innovative pathways towards a more sustainable waste management system.
