Collaboration

The collaboration between the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) - Brazil, through the Graduate Program on Environmental Engineering, and the Z-ONA4LIFE project promotes scientific and technological advances and aims to boost innovation in sustainable materials and environmental remediation.

Facilitated by the CAPES (Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) Institutional Internationalization Program - CAPES-PrInt/Brazil and the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences of the Spanish National Research Council (IETcc-CSIC), this collaboration, in addition to scientific and technological development, also impacts the scientific formation of human resources by enabling international mobility and academic exchange of graduate students between Brazil and Spain.

The Z-ONA4LIFE project in partnership with UFSC promoted the valorization of several hazardous industrial wastes for use as unconventional raw materials in the synthesis of adsorbent zeolites, which were applied to the removal of toxic metallic ions and dyes from wastewaters, offering a sustainable solution to urgent environmental challenges.

The excellent results achieved have resulted in the publication of two doctoral thesis at UFSC, one of which was also defended at the Autonomous University of Madrid, and six scientific papers in international prestigious journals, as well as several presentations at international events.

Together, CAPES-PrInt/UFSC Program and Z-ONA4LIFE Project are paving the way for a greener future, while stimulating the next generation of researchers and innovators.
